Serene and quiet this tiny little village, holiest among the Buddhist religious center is boddhgaya. It was here that the quest of Prince Siddharth was fulfilled after years of quest for the ultimate truth,the supreme enlightenment and he became 'THE BUDDHA', the enlightened one. Thus, in away , Buddhism was born under the Peepal Tree here. The Tree still appears to radiate an aura of abiding serenity spiritual solitude and peace. It is believed that the original Bodhi tree sprang up on the day of Buddha's birth. The Prince has been wandering in search of supreme peace for six years, but it was at Bodhgaya where his mission was achieved . Lying in sylvan solitude this sacred place is situated on the banks of Niranjana river (modern Falgu). It is 13 kms from Gaya.

PLACES OF INTEREST
THE BODHI TREE: The present Bodhi Tree is supposed to be the fifth in succession of the original tree under which the Buddha has attained enlightenment.

MAHABODHINI TEMPLE: The Mahabodhini temple stands east of the Bodhi Tree. Its basement is 48 squate feet and it rises in the form of a slender Pyramid till it reaches its neck which is cylindrical in shap. The Total height of the temple is 170 feet and on the top of it are Chatras which symbolize soverignity of religion. Inside the temple in the main sanctum, on a altar, is a colossal image of the Buddha in a sitting posture touching the earth by his right hand. In this posture the Buddha is believed to have accomplished the supreme enlightenment. The statue is in black stone but guilded by the devotees. VAJRASANA: Vajrasana, the seat of stability. The Buddha is supposed to have sat in meditation gazing east under the Bodhi tree where the Vajrasana, the stone platform, is kept.

THE ANCIENT RAILING: The ancient railing which surround the temples are of the first century BC and are very interesting momuments.

CHANKARAMANA: This marks the sacred spot of the Buddha,s meditative perambulation during this third week after the pious enlightenment. It is believed that where the Buddha put his feet lotus had sprang up.

ANIMESHLOCHANA: It is believed that the Buddha spent one week here looking towards the great Mahabodhini Tree out of gratitude without tinkling eyelids.

RATNAGAR: The Buddha is said to have spent one week here where, it is believed five colours had sprang out of his body.

LOTUS TANK: The sacred tank where it is believed the Buddha had spent a week.
